Cyril Aouizerate, the movement alchemist
A "street philosopher" and entrepreneur, he takes an interest in the renewal of urban projects, notably creating Bercy Village in Paris and participating in the rebirth of the Cité de la Mode et du Design, among others.
In 2001, he embarked on the creation of the first Mama Shelter with his friends Serge Trigano and Philippe Starck, and in 2008 opened the Paris address at 109 rue de Bagnolet. He then developed the concept in Marseille, Lyon, Bordeaux and Los Angeles. Meanwhile, in December 2011, Cyril Aouizerate opened his own hybrid space in Brooklyn, NYC: MOB (vegan restaurant, cultural space, New York State organic vegetable cooperative...) with his partner in crime and three-Michelin-star chef Alain Senderens. MOB Brooklyn quickly became a popular address on Brooklyn's cultural and activist scene.
In 2014, having left the Mama Shelter adventure, Cyril Aouizerate founded and began developing MOB HOTEL with his long-time friend and partner, Michel Reybier. In March 2017, MOB HOTEL opened its doors in the Puces district of Saint Ouen, then six month later in Lyon's Confluence district. In 2022, he will open MOB HOUSE, a 3-in-1 hotel project, combining bedroom, office and meeting room in a single space. At last, at Cannes, Carnot.
An artisan hotelier, Cyril Aouizerate developed MOB to create a new matrix between the world of entrepreneurship, social ecology, a form of political commitment and a universal vision of the human project. He is a personal shareholder in the Parisian Club SILENCIO, in Midnight train, the "hotel on rails" with Adrien Aumont, and in Kokoroé, a knowledge-sharing company with Xavier Niel.
His vision
"MOB HOTEL defends an ecological and social vision driven by people on the move. We all need to understand the urgency of complying with ecological values and social justice. As a hotelier, I asked myself what if a hotel was more than just a hotel and if it had a role to play in rethinking the city, revitalizing rural areas, creating links... Clearly, we can no longer duplicate the same aseptic establishments. That model is outdated.
We need to conceive a hotel as a space anchored in its territory, a place open to and benefiting residents. A reef where associations and businesses are welcomed for events that contribute to the city's appeal. All this must be based on foundations, such as the promise to use craftsmen and bio-sourced materials, and to offer 100% organic catering local if possible.
That's exactly what we're reconciling at MOB to achieve energy independence. Collectively, we're creating a solid social and sustainable economy that generates jobs. We are - like all human beings - imperfect, but we are working to avoid the destruction of living things."
